Healthy gums after periodontal plastic surgery
The gum tissue can sometimes become thick and overgrown, covering much of the tooth surface and making your teeth appear shorter than they really are. This can be caused by certain medications, bone growing too close to the tooth surface, or inflammation related to gum disease.

Periodontal Plastic Surgery, also known as gingivectomy, is a trusted procedure that removes excess gum tissue. Here are some common reasons you might need a gingivectomy:

Cosmetic Improvement:

To restore a natural tooth appearance by exposing more of the tooth when gums cover too much, making your smile look balanced and proportional.

To reduce excess gum tissue (gingival overgrowth) caused by medications like anti-seizure drugs, organ-transplant meds, or certain blood pressure medicines.

Supporting Bone and Gum Health:

To reduce deep gum pockets that can harbor bacteria. Sometimes, minor bone reshaping is part of the process.

Procedure Overview

First, we gently numb the area to ensure your comfort. Then the extra gum tissue is carefully removed using a scalpel, rotary tools, or a laser. Most often, stitches aren’t necessary. You might feel some soreness for 1-2 days, and we’ll provide medication to ease any discomfort. A follow-up visit about a week later helps us make sure healing is on track.
